• Marsha Akins-Jordan to be inducted to Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame Mrs. Marsha Akins Jordan will be one of the 10 inductees to the Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame, Inc.

Looks like there’s going to be nothing but sunshine and very hot temperatures across southeast Oklahoma for the week ahead. The afternoons will be sunny with high temperatures 95 to 100 degrees and heat index near 105. At night you can expect clear skies with low temperatures dropping to near 74 degrees. Temperatures are expected to continue above normal through Sept. 6.

Hank Anderson, a resident of Bennington, Okla., veteran of the United States Air Force, and devoted servant of his Lord Jesus Christ, joined his Savior on Aug. 17, 2021, at the age of 86. He was born in Aquilla, Texas, on Jan. 14, 1935, to Henderson I. Anderson and Lovella (Ivey) Anderson. Hank married his beloved Sherron “Kay” Brackett in Bokchito, Okla., on Aug. 20, they were married for 55 years.

Funeral services for Alfred “Al” Amend, Sr., of Soper, Okla., were held at 10 a.m. Aug.

Graveside services for Rosetta Caston were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021 at the Grant Cemetery in Grant, Okla., with Keithen Brown officiating. Rosetta went to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, in Paris, Texas, at the age of 85.

Patricia Mae (Mills) Chandler passed from this life at her home in Spencerville, Okla., on Aug. 18, 2021, at the age of 80. She was born on Sept. 6, 1940 in Denton, Texas, to Buster and Alta Mae (Harris) Mills.

Funeral services for Cornelia Wilson, of Hugo, Okla., will be at 2 p.m. Aug.

Janet Lee Erwin was born on July 30, 1963 in Stockton, Calif., to Glen McWhirter and Patricia Casey (Spurgin). She was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Wayne McWhirter and her stepfather, Joe Casey.
