Steadily climbing temperatures for the week ahead as we go from the upper-80s to start the week to the upper-90s by next Sunday. Fair to partly sunny skies for the next seven days with only very slim chances of any popup showers during the week. Highs in the 90s likely through Aug. 15. We finished the month of July with 3.75 inches of rain officially in Hugo.

LAST WEEK, WAVA KEELING (left center) was the guest speaker at Hugo Rotary Club’s meeting. Now with First United Bank’s Treasury Management department, you may remember her as a former meteorologist for KXII, and she gave a very informative talk regarding Oklahoma weather and upcoming resources that will help detection in our area. She is pictured here with Rotarians Zack Savage (far left), Bruce Akard (right center), and Colby Bryant (far right).

Books galore...

CHOCTAW NATION RECENTLY donated more than $3,500 worth of books to Hugo Elementary and Intermediate schools. Every book was written by a Native American author and in addition to providing new reading materials to the schools, these books will also help promote diversity among our students. Hugo PD raids Fifth St. home after drive-by shootings

HUGO — As many as 10 Hugo PD and Choctaw Tribal Police units participated in a raid on a S. Fifth St. residence in Hugo last week. According to Hugo Chief of Police John Mitchell, a warrant to search 607 S. Fifth St. was obtained after a number of shots were reportedly fired into that residence the previous day. Mitchell stated there had been several drive-by shootings in Hugo in the preceeding two weeks, and he said preliminary information indicated the squabbles were over a girl.
