THE HUGO AREA CHAMBER of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon to celebrate the Red Star’s first anniversary under new ownership. Owners Jennifer and Scott Moore opened the doors of the Red Star the second weekend of September 2020, and have since upgraded the facilities to include a fun outdoor area for entertaining. Behind the bar, you’ll find a fenced-in area with shaded seating and corn hole boards. Red Star owner Jennifer Moore cuts the ribbon alongside her husband, Scott, members of the Hugo Area Chamber of Commerce and Red Star employees Thursday afternoon. Football Contest winner

TIM LOFTIN, of Hugo, was this week’s winner of the Hugo News Football Contest after choosing 15 out of 19 games correctly. Loftin guessed closest (632) to the OU Sooners’ total offense figure (624) to edge out Verna Robinson. Pictured, Loftin collects the $50 weekly prize from Stephanie Hampton of Hugo Express Pharmacy, where he obtained his winning entry blank. CHECOTAH — With a stomach bug plaguing around 15 members of Hugo’s team by midweek, the Buffaloes were more than a little concerned about how last Friday night’s game was going to go. They were low on depth, forced to make a change in the starting lineup due to one player’s departure and heading into a game against a 3A team featuring a running back with Division I offers.
