Oklahoma Supreme Court to decide if ‘reservation’ Indians must pay state income tax

OCPA — The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2020 ruling in McGirt v. Oklahoma, which declared that the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s Oklahoma reservation was never formally disestablished for purposes of federal major-crimes law, has now led to a state court case that will determine if all American Indians in the affected areas are now exempt from paying Oklahoma state income tax.

Graveside services for Kenneth McAdams were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Kenneth passed away Friday, May 19, 2023, in Lawton, Okla., at the age of 86. Kenneth McAdams was born Aug. 10, 1936 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of Eugene and Lena Dean (Odum) McAdams. Kenneth served in the US Army as a dental tech. He called himself a “workaholic.” He ventured in many areas such as real estate, disc jockey, news guy, builder of homes, commercial glass co., cattle rancher. He spent over 35 years in banking as a loan officer working in various places in Texas and Oklahoma. Kenneth loved his grandchildren.
