Governor Kevin Stitt has officially declared September 20-26 as Deaf Awareness Week in Oklahoma. “The purpose of Deaf Awareness Week is to increase public awareness of Deaf culture, heritage and American Sign Language, which are unique to deaf people,” Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program Manager David Hankinson said. Hugo School board of education has begun the search for a new superintendent. After adjourning into executive session during Monday’s meeting, the board discussed the superintendent search and the interview process, which will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 11 with approximately 12 applicants. The board announced after the meeting closed Monday that Sammy Drinkard, who was currently the dean of students at the high school, was asked to transfer positions and has accepted to role of high school principal.

Kiamichi Tech recognizes Practical Nursing graduates

HUGO –– Twelve Practical Nursing students graduated from Kiamichi Tech Hugo on Thursday, June 27. According to the program director, Shelly Swalley, Practical Nursing graduates complete 1,508 hours of class time and clinical hours.
