James Paul Lindsey, Jr., age 59, passed away peacefully at home during the early hours of April 11, 2021.

Paul was born in Hobbs, N.M., on Aug. 6, 1961, to Jim and Betty (Males) Lindsey. He was the only son and the youngest of three children. He graduated Hobbs High School in 1979. During his teenage years, every summer Paul would travel to Soper, Okla., staying with his Uncle Walter, Aunt Bernice and cousins, working the family ranch. His love for Oklahoma led him to continue his education at Wilburton, attending Eastern Oklahoma State College on a bull riding scholarship. Paul remained in Oklahoma after school, Soper became home to him. Paul enjoyed spending time with family, telling stories, riding horses, working cattle, hunting, fishing, camping, boating and sports. As a father of three boys there were a lot of summers spent at the lake camping, swimming, fishing and skiing. For many years he traveled to ball fields near and far. He was very passionate and vocal about watching his boys play ball, and rarely missed a game! When the grandkids came along, he took on the role of a fun papa, teaching them to ride horses, play baseball, shoot guns and so much more. He always grilled at the grandchildrens’ birthday parties because everyone loved his barbecue burgers. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, sometimes running others out of the room if they didn’t take the game as serious as he did.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents: Jim and Betty Lindsey and son, Spencer James Lindsey.

Paul leaves to cherish his memory with children: Travis Paul Lindsey of Soper, Okla., Dalton Daniel Lindsey and wife, Robin Marie of Soper; longtime friend and mother of his children, Lorie Griffin of Hugo, Okla.; sisters: Judy Gregory and husband, Ken of Owasso, Okla., and Becky Battishill and husband, Robby of Soper; grandson, Paxton Lindsey and granddaughter, Layla Lindsey; and good friend, Harold Goodwin. Paul will also be remembered by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and dear friends.
