Ed Ross Ligon

Ed Ross Ligon passed away peacefully in his home on Dec. 11, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born June 7, 1932, in Comanche, Texas, the son of the Ed Ross, Sr. and Ruth (Bryson) Ligon. After graduating from high school, Ross married his sweetheart, Patsy Karolyn Grey on Nov. 9, 1951 in Comanche, Texas. They soon moved to Fallon, Nev., where Ross worked on a ranch until he was drafted by the U.S. Army. He served two years as a radar operator and then after his discharge he spent one year working for General Motors in Arlington, Texas. He then, along with his father-in-law, Challie Grey, went on a hunt for a ranch in Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. They fell in love with a beautiful place at the foothills of the Ladrone mountain in Magdalena, N.M. Ross put his heart and soul into the ranch and as result won several awards: Salado S.W.C.D. Outstanding Rancher, Bureau of Land Management Riparian Showcase Award and Steward Rancher of The Year.

While ranching, he also spent 25 years with the U.S. Forest Service in Magdalena as a Fire Control Officer to make extra income for the ranch. Then after 50 years, Ross and Pat left Magdalena and bought a ranch in Hugo, Okla. He was a faithful member of Hugo Church of Christ and served as an Elder for five years. After 13 years in Hugo, Ross retired from ranching and moved back home to Magdalena to be around his family.

Ross is survived by his wife of 69 years, Patsy K. (Grey) Ligon; two daughters: Brenda Ligon Logan and her husband, Mark of Texico, N.M., Karolyn Ligon Chavez and her husband, Donnie of Magdalena, N.M.; four grandchildren: Kaleb Brenem and his wife, Kelsey, Emily Logan, Riley White and Brady Logan and two great-grandchildren: Kamren Brenem and Kashlee Brenem.
