Memorial services for Henry C. Lyles, Jr. will be held at a later date due to COVID-19. Henry passed from this life on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, in Hugo, at the age of 100.

Henry C. Lyles, Jr. was born on July 13, 1921 in Hugo, Okla., the son of Henry Clarence Lyles, Sr. and Audrey Louise (Freeman) Lyles. Henry was a graduate of Hugo High School. He married Mary Sue Mathis on Oct. 4, 1947. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir.

Henry owned and operated Lyles Sign Company for 60 years. Henry served with the Oklahoma 45th Division Company F (Hugo) during World War II. He was called back with the Oklahoma National Guard to serve in the Korean War. He received numerous medals and accommodations including the Bronze Star. In the early 70s Henry became involved in the newly-formed Hugo Association –– The Little Theater. He served as director for more than 25 years.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Lyles on Oct. 10, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Roy Eugene Lyles, Sr., Paul Edward Lyles and Jack Lyles and his parents.

Henry is survived by a son, Jeffrey Lyles, Sr. of Hugo; daughter, Vicki MacKenney and husband, Fred of Chico, Texas; grandchildren: Nathan MacKenney and wife, Brandi, Kahlea Thompson and husband, Miles, Jeffrey Lyles, Jr., Jordan Lyles and wife, Raylen; great-grandchildren: Everr Young, Memphis Thompson, Katherine Grace Lyles, Mason Hill and Kai MacKenney. Henry is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Billie Simpson, Karen Lyles and Betty Lyles, plus a host of family and friends
