John “Pa” Louis Manous, a loving husband, father, “Pa” and friend passed away on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020 in Durant, Okla., at the age of 77. John was born in Hugo, Okla., to Lous Manous and Eva Jean Hensley Wright on July 7, 1943. John married the love of his life, Sharon Schuessler on April 17, 1965 in Boswell, Okla.

There is much to be said about John Manous. He was a one-of-a-kind man. He was known for his deep love of his wife, Sharon and raising four wonderful children. The phrase that comes to most people’s mind is “Brand em so y’all know em!” That was a phrase often used by John when talking about raising a family. John was a rancher for 55 years, that was his true passion. John also worked many other jobs, like: Machinist for Dresser Oil in Dallas, Texas, Campbell Soup in Paris, Texas, Little Dixie for two years in Hugo. He also worked at JC Potter’s in Durant for 35 years before retiring. After retiring from Potter’s, he drove a hotshot truck for Robert Wingfield. In his spare time, he enjoyed giving back to the Boswell School District by not only supporting the Boswell Scorpion Basketball and Ag Boosters, but he was also a board member for 18 years. He was also a member of Boswell First Baptist. He was known for never missing, enjoying and watching his kids and grandchildren rope, rodeo, show their animals, dance or sing. The only thing his family couldn’t beat was his trophy buck killed in the 80s that set the bar high for every deer killed on the ranch! He always loved to look at a good-looking horse. John also enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys even though they never failed to frustrate him. He was well known by many to be the best rib smoker in town. John will be missed by all who knew him, and one thing is for sure, Boswell, Okla., will never be the same.

Those left to carry on Johns’ legacy are his wife, of 55 years, Sharon of the home; children: Brent Manous and wife, Rikki, Gina Fomby and husband, James, Toby and wife, Jenni Manous, and J.C. Manous, all of Boswell; grandchildren: Colby, Chelsea, Zach, Tanner, Courtney, Sassi, Sadie, Hannah, Jamie, Bella and Addison; greatgrandchildren: Kingston. Zoey, Lukas, and Miley and uncle, Freddie Manous.

Mr. Manous is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ann Manous. Harry and Eva Jean Wright, also father and mother-in-law, Jimmy and Wilmouth Schuessler.

Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020 at Restland Cemetery in Boswell with Larry Finch and Pastor Rick Austin officiating, under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey funeral Home.
