Doris G. Ross passed away at her home on Friday, March 18, 2022, in Hugo, Okla. She was 79. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the Prater-Lampton-Mills and Coffey Funeral Home in Hugo. Interment followed at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo with the Rev. Gene Wilson officiating.

Doris G. (John) Ross was born Oct. 25, 1942, to James John and Prim Lewis in Talihina, Okla. She was originally from the Broken Bow area (30 plus years ago).

Doris worked as a supervisor and director for the Choctaw Housing Authority and took much pride in her Choctaw heritage. She was a very loyal and dedicated OU Sooner Fan. If she wasn’t rooting for the OOOO-OUUUUUUU team from her chair at home, she was in the stands with her big OU foam finger, or she was supporting the team with her OU wardrobe and car gear! She enjoyed shopping and travelling and loved bringing home souvenirs to her loved ones and friends. Doris was very creative and enjoyed painting, beading and sewing. Everything she created was as beautiful and unique as she was. She was proud of her children and enjoyed displaying her sons’ Native arts and crafts on the walls of her home. She spent a lot of time in her gardens planting pretty flowers around her house. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends, especially her special dog “Atlas.”

Doris was preceded in death by her father, James John; mother, Prim Lewis; stepfather, Ramsey Lewis; her sister, “Lou” Louis Parks; her brothers: Eugene John, Dean John, and Simeon Hicks; her daughter, Tina Marie Parker and granddaughter, Gale Marie Young

She is survived by her son, Les Williston and fiance, Elizabeth Knapp of Talihina, Okla.; daughter, Tonia Williston of Sawyer, Okla., and brothers: Buck John and Vernon John (California). She leaves to cherish her memory 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home.
