Velma Lou Abney-Sangster passed away peacefully with her family in Winnsboro, Texas, in her 90th year of life on March 17, 2022. She was born Jan. 16, 1932 and raised in Hugo, Okla., for 89 years where she was able to raise her family from a quaint home nestled in a neighborhood full of friends. She was the beloved wife of the late Gene Sangster and the loved mother of Diane Davis and Allen Dale McLemore. She is survived by nine of her 11 siblings: JD Abney, JC Abney, Leo Abney, JR Abney, Ed Abney, James Abney, Dorothy Hitchcock, Lula Mae Hardaway and Janice Boyett. She was preceded in death by her two sisters: Evalena Benton and Jene McDaniel. Velma’s family continued to flourish with four grandchildren: Shannon Hamby, Crystal Caddell, Briana McLemore and Heather Edge; 10 great-grandchildren: Jaiden, Quentin, Raelynn, Maelyn, Gabriel, Kinley, Tori, Aiden, Devan and River, and one great-great-granddaughter, Pilot.

The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Winds Assisted Living and Heart-to-Heart Hospice for all of their support and care in her final moments of life.

There will be a private celebration for her family to commemorate and honor her while laying her body to rest at Springs Chapel Cemetery. She will truly be missed by her loving family and friends.
