Funeral services for James “Buddy” Anderson, of Valliant, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2023 at Felker Freewill Baptist Church. James “Buddy” Anderson was born Jan. 19, 1928 in Valliant, Okla., the son of Osborne Irwin and Eltie (Farris) Anderson. Buddy was member of the Valliant community his entire life. He passed away peacefully in his home on June 30, 2023, at the age of 95. He is preceded in death by his parents, Osborne and Eltie Anderson; brothers: Robert C. Anderson, Billy Joe Anderson and Kenneth Anderson.

Buddy was a World War II veteran. He served on the Valliant School Board, Soil Conservation Board, and the Choctaw Electric Co-op Board for a big portion of his life. Buddy was a cattle rancher and an avid family man. His great-granddaughter, Maggi, was the apple of his eye. The last 24 years of his life were rotated around her. He was an early riser and worked hard every day until the day he died. He treated those who worked for him with great respect. He set a high standard for himself and for his family. Buddy had a great knowledge about cattle and spent every summer in the hay fields. He would work all day out in the pastures and then come home to his darling wife, whom he had been married to for 75 years. Buddy took great pride in his work and expected a lot from those around him. Anything he set his mind to do, he worked hard at, and perfected it. He was strong in his beliefs, and never wavered in making decisions he felt were right. Buddy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Bobbie of the home; daughter, Judy Smith of Valliant; grandchildren: Justin Louis Smith of Valliant and James Oliver (J.O.) Smith of Valliant; great-granddaughter, Maggi J Smith of Ringold, Okla.; sister, Geneva Swisher of Elgin, Ore.; along with a host of other friends, family and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Moran Cemetery with Bro. Bob Stuart officiating, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
