Memorial services for Barbara Jean Sheaffer, of Hugo, Okla., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021 at Heritage United Methodist Church of Hugo. Barbara passed away Dec. 14, 2021, at the age of 74.

Barbara Jean Sheaffer was born on Dec. 16, 1946, in Hugo, Okla., to Joseph Warren and Jan (Roller) Brindley. She was preceded in death by her parents and a greatgrandchild, Baby Sheaffer.

Barbara was a Hugo High School graduate, Class of 1965. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma (OU) and her Master’s Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). Barbara married the love of her life, Gerald Sheaffer on Dec. 28, 1969, in Hugo. She loved life and adored her gentleman of a husband. Barbara was a mother and grandmother to whomever walked through her door. She had an open door and heart to the community and took an active role in Goodland School and caring for foster children throughout the area. Barbara was a teacher for many years at Kiamichi Technology Center, a brownie leader, and a member of the PTA, the Pierian Club and the NYF Methodist Group. She was actively involved with her children and their activities and loved rock and roll music, especially Janis Joplin and Jimmi Hendrix. Barbara loved having her nieces come to her home and stay for the summer. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gerald; daughters: Ginger Sheaffer and Joy Thornhill of Hugo; grandchildren: Brooklynn Thornhill, Kaleb Sheaffer, Trevor Thornhill, Kylie Heinrichs, Kyler D. Heinrichs; great-grandchild, Zylah Sheaffer and one on the way, Kai Sheaffer; brother, Joey Brindley of Hugo, and a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

Services are under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
