Billie “Bugg” Simpson, a resilient and spirited soul, born on March 14, 1928, in Grant, Okla., passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024, in Hugo, Okla. Known for her vivacious personality and kind heart, she lived a life full of love and laughter.

A beloved member of the community, Billie graduated from high school and devoted herself to a variety of careers. She skillfully juggled roles at Southwestern Bell as an operator, served the Hugo Housing Authority, worked at the OSU Extension Office, helped her husband run Mistletoe Express and displayed meticulous attention to detail in title research for the Choctaw County Title Company. Billie’s professional life was as diverse as it was rewarding, reflecting her adaptability and dedication.

At the First Methodist Church, she found spiritual fulfillment and a fellowship that extended beyond Sunday services. Her faith was a cornerstone upon which she built her life’s journey. A journey that included traveling halfway around the world and raising her children.

Billie’s zest for life shone brightly through her hobbies, which evolved from the agility of tennis to the strategy of golf, and ultimately to the thrill of gambling. Each interest revealed her competitive spirit and willingness to embrace the joys of life. Family was the linchpin of her existence. She was a cherished matriarch to her three sons: Barry Simpson of Tuskahoma, Larry Simpson of Powderly, and Keith Simpson of Highlands Ranch, as well as her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her memory will be a beacon of love and strength for them all.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren Durl Simpson, in 1989, her steadfast parents, her brother, John Bugg, and two stepsisters: Lou Beasley and Sue Lyles, Billie’s memory will continue to be a beacon of love and happiness for all who knew her. Her irrepressible spirit and her heartwarming smile will be dearly missed but fondly remembered.

A service to celebrate Billie’s extraordinary life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the 1st United Methodist Church in Hugo, with a reception to immediately follow in the church’s fellowship hall.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home of Hugo.
