Body

Billie Naomi Greene, age 89, of Lake City, Fla., went to her Heavenly home on April 1, 2022 at Suwannee Valley Care Center. She was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on Dec. 28, 1932, to the late Vernon Riddle Cordell and Hazel Opal Matherly. Billie grew up in a small east Tennessee community and graduated from Elizabethton High School. She was a beautiful woman from the inside out who accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in her teens and lived a life that reflected her deep conviction to Him. She married the love of her life, Mack Greene, in June of 1952. They enjoyed an extraordinary life together, traveling extensively with the National Park Service where Mack was employed many years. Perhaps her most incredible memory was having tea with Eleanor Roosevelt when they lived in Hyde Park, N.Y., but that’s hard to say as there were countless memories she shared throughout her sweet life. Billie was a talented seamstress, and her handiwork was flawless. She was most passionate about her family; being a devoted wife and loving mother to her two children. She and Mack were married 35 years when he passed at the age of 62. Billie remained healthy and independent until her last days. She was a member of Elim Baptist Church in Ft. White and Fort White United Methodist Church. She thoroughly enjoyed attending church services to praise, worship, be filled and grow, along with spending precious time fellowshipping with her church family. Billie loved unconditionally and her legacy is that she was genuinely loved by everyone who knew her. Well done, faithful servant. Billie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mack C. Greene, Jr.; parents, Vernon “Pat” Cordell and Hazel MacLaren; her grandparents and all her aunts and uncles.

Billie is survived by her loving children: Roger B. (Sherry) Greene, Sr. of Virginia, and Nancy L. (Bob) Turner of Lake City, Fla.; brother, Dr. Jack (Jan) Cordell of North Carolina; grandchildren: Randi (Dusty) Hewit, Naomi (Kevin) Newman, Vickie Pridemore, R. Blake Greene, Jr., Jennifer Oaks, Allen Oaks, and Tara (Tyler) Dockery; 10 greatgrandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of Billie’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2022 at Fort White United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Brecheen officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. April 22, 2022 at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn., where she will be interred with her husband, Mack.
