Funeral services for David “Snake” Hunter, of Hugo, Okla., were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 24, 2023 at Miller & Miller Funeral Chapel. David passed away Feb. 21, 2023, at the age of 85.

David Gary “Snake” Hunter was born on Dec. 15, 1937, the son of Charles Edward Hunter and Pauline Ruth (Roger) Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Jerry Hunter, Jimmy Hunter, Bill Hunter, Charles Edward Hunter, Doyle Hunter and John Hunter; sister, Pat Thompson; and his wife of 35 years, Dena Hunter.

Snake lived most of his life in Hugo and was a truck driver by trade. He was a great boxer and had won Gold Glove Champion twice. Snake was very athletic and enjoyed riding horses, hunting and raising cattle. He married Dena Jo Kos on Dec. 31, 1987, in Hugo. Snake was a great man and outstanding father who loved his family above all things. He was his son, Bert’s hero. Snake enjoyed watching ball games and never missed a game. He was a people person and never met a stranger. Snake will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Snake is survived by his son, Bert Hunter and fiance of Hugo; adopted son, James Allen Hunter of Ada, Okla.; step-sons: Dwight Kos and wife of Hugo and Fritz Kos of Hugo; brother, Howard Hunter of Dallas, Texas; sister, Judy Campbell of Bluff, Okla., along with a host of nephews, nieces, friends, family and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Springs Chapel Cemetery with Father Todd Nance officiating, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
