Dorothy “Dot” Jean Glenn

Private memorial service for Dorothy “Dot” Jean Glenn will be held at a later date. Dot passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021 in Hugo, Okla., at the age of 85.

Dorothy Jean Glenn was born April 1, 1936, the daughter of Henry Grady and Wanetta (Siddle) Glenn, in Hugo. She had lived in this area most of her life

Dot Glenn was a fearless, independent woman who spent a lifetime teaching others and endlessly working to make this world a better place. First as a teacher and coach from 1958 to 1993 and then after her retirement, she taught important life lessons to others and shared her wisdom on a daily basis. Although Dot never had children of her own, she was a mentor, friend and role model to countless children who benefited from her love, respect and care.

She was a distinguished tribal elder and a proud member of the Choctaw Nation, and she often shared her Native American culture and stories with others. Dot also worked to better her community and was a member of more than 35 educational and civic organizations during her lifetime. She quietly made many contributions because she sincerely wanted to help others to better themselves. She was honored to be named Hugo’s Citizen of the Year in 2017.

She touched countless lives during her time as an educator and to those lucky enough to be counted as her family and friends. Dot was very outspoken, and you could always count on her to tell it like it is and keep everyone straight. She also had a heart of gold and loved her family and friends beyond words. She nurtured and protected those she loved, and her greatest joy came from spending time with family, friends and her beloved pets. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Billy Steve Glenn, Fayetta Glenn West, Mary Glenn and Parker Glenn.

Dot is survived by her brother, Larry Jack Glenn and wife, Ruth of Hugo; sisters: Kay Glenn McIntyre and husband, Vanard of New Mexico; nieces and nephews: Shelley Russell, Vandy Lujan, Aurelia McIntyre, Henry West, Kenny West, Gina Self, Amber Glenn, Alicia Mitchell, Avery Amos, Ambree Ramirez, Anica Ramirez and a host of other family and friends, including special friends: Jeanne Rorie and Michele Frazier.

Dot Glenn achieved her life’s work and made this world a better place and she will be forever missed.
