Funeral services for Evelyn (Kent) Graves were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021 at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Okla., at the Bill Darrough Pavilion, with Bro. Jim Staggs officiating. Evelyn passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, in Hugo, Okla., at the age of 94.

Evelyn Graves was born Nov. 4, 1926, the daughter of George Dewey and Margaret “Maggie” (Terrell) Kent, in Valliant, Okla. She grew up there, graduating from Valliant High School. She married Carl E. “Buck” Graves in April of 1949 at Ashdown, Ark. They made their home and raised the children in Idabel, Okla., City and Del City, Okla., and Longview, Texas, doing various ventures. There is an interesting story involving her when she taught third grade for a short period of time at Valliant Elementary. Evelyn later received an opportunity to work as a bookkeeper at the 1st Guaranty Bank in Valliant. Evelyn was an excellent wife, mother and homemaker! She loved sewing (an EXCELLENT seamstress!) and crochet. She had a great time keeping up with friends and family using her computer and even wrote a fascinating accounting of the Kent family. In a move to Hugo in 1976, Evelyn became and enjoyed being the owner and operator of the Hugo Ice Company for many years. Later she managed the Photo Kwik photo hut for a number of years. While living in Del City she worked in the Church of Christ offices for many years as a dedicated and active member of the church. She was a faithful member of the Messer Church of Christ and the Red Hat Club of Choctaw County.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buck; sister, Jean Stanford; brother, Norman Kent.

Evelyn is survived by her children: son, Monty Graves of Hugo; daughter, Carla Parker and husband, Frank of Broken Bow, Okla.; son, John Graves of Norman, Okla.; grandsons: Cortni Gibson of Linden, Texas, and Jeff Graves of McKinney, Texas; great-grandchildren: Colby Gibson and Caleb Gibson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Please make all memorial donations to the local Church of Christ congregations in Messer, Fort Towson or Hugo, Okla., in cherished memory of Evelyn Kent Graves.

Family and friends are invited to sign the guest book or send private condolences to the family at www.mtolivefh.com.

Services were under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home.
