George Eugene Vaughan

George Eugene Vaughan passed on Oct. 19, 2022 at Sugar Land, Texas. “Pa Pa Gene” was born on July 2, 1934 at his grandparents’ farm house, which was located two miles west of Soper, Okla. His parents were the late Lemuel Gose Vaughan and Catherine Walker Loper Vaughan of Baytown, Texas.

In the mid-1940s, his family moved to Goose Creek, Texas, (Now Baytown, Texas) where he was a proud member of Robert E. Lee High School class of 1952. In 1954 “Pa Pa Gene” married his high school sweet heart, Freida Nell Laramore. On June 6, 1973 Freida passed very suddenly at the age of 37. Three years later he married family friend and former Baytown resident, Jan Stroud. “Pa Pa Gene” and “GranJan” were blessed to enjoy 46 years together.

“Pa Pa Gene” was greatly influenced by the events of his early childhood in the great depression years. This created a strong work ethic in him. He attended college classes during the day and worked the night shift for Nyotex Chemical and Texas City Chemical prior to beginning a successful 41-year career with Union Carbide Chemical Company. He then began a 19-year career at the George Ranch Historical Park in Fort Bend County, Texas.

“Pa Pa Gene” was a long-time member of Trinity Tabernacle church in Baytown, Texas, for many years, where he taught the Junior Boys Sunday School Class. In his later years he and “GranJan” worshipped at Sugar Land Baptist Church.

“Pa Pa Gene” was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Freida; brothers: Rodell Vaughan and Archie Loper and sister, Pauline Loper Lemons. He is survived by his wife, Jan Vaughan of Sugar Land, Texas; sons: Lanny Vaughan of Antlers, Okla., Kevin Vaughan of Katy, Texas, and step-daughter, Lynn Parker of Sugar Land. Also surviving are grandchildren: Shawn Vaughan, Courtney Vaughan (Angela), Valerie Vaughan Berecky (Ryan), Kristina Vaughan Baker, and Natalie Vaughan. Great-grandchildren are: Kayleigh Vaughan, Catherine Vaughan, Turner Vaughan, Isabelle and Iliza Baker. Greatgreat- grandchildren are: Vienna Vaughan and Everest Vaughan.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022 at Cedarcrest Cemetery, 3010 Ferry Rd., Baytown, TX 77520, with Pastor Roy and Lynette Waldrep officiating.
