Jackie Dale Glaze, 84, passed away Oct. 30, 2022.

Dale was born July 11, 1938 in Hugo, Okla., to Elzie Glaze and Geneva Hutchings Glaze. The family moved to Lubbock, Texas, in 1948, where he attended school and graduated from Monterey High School. He received a basketball scholarship to Kerrville College and Lubbock Christian. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Tech.

Dale taught school in El Paso where he worked at Eastwood High School coaching tennis. He was proud of the students he coached and mentored. Some had earned tennis scholarships as they went on to college and kept in touch with him over the years.

Dale loved the sport of tennis, and it continued his entire life. He was a tennis pro for many years, managing tennis clubs in El Paso, Bossier City, and the Dallas area. As described by one of his teammates, “Dale was a very competitive, extremely talented tennis player and known around Texas for his ability.” He played in many tournaments and won several awards. His over 50s team competed in the Nationals twice, in Palm Springs and Arizona. He received his Master’s Degree from Southeastern in Oklahoma, and returned to teaching in Sherman Texas, the last 26 years of his working life before retiring. He continued giving private tennis lessons to kids even in his later years and maintained friendships with them.

He leaves behind his longtime partner, Shari; brother, Bob Glaze (Susie); sister, Rita Sue Dale (Lawrence); sister-in-law, Silvia; step-grandchildren he loved as his own, and many friends to cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Dean Glaze.

It was his wish to be cremated. A family graveside service is pending in Hugo.
