Funeral services for Jimmy Donald Setzer, of Lawton, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022 at Miller & Miller Funeral Home. Jimmy passed away Dec. 4, 2022, at the age of 82.

Jimmy Donald Setzer was born on Oct. 14, 1940 in Valliant, to J.W. and Pauline (Hall) Setzer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bobby Jay Setzer; his father-in-law and mother-in-law.

Jimmy Don was a 1960 graduate of Valliant High School. He graduated with a degree in HVAC Engineering from OSU Tech in Okmulgee. After that, he worked for Public Service Company of Oklahoma. He and Jean then opened Setzer Sales and Service, a heating and air conditioning service in Lawton in 1972. During that time, he was President of the Artillery Center Chapter of the Refrigeration Society. He taught Air Conditioning and Refrigeration at Great Plains Area Vo-Tech as a night instructor. He was also a member of Lawton Jaycees. He was an honest and fair man. He retired after 40 years of running a business.

He married Jean Peebles, his high sweetheart on Sept. 11, 1960 in Fort Towson, Okla. They raised two sons: Darrel and Don. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He and Jean were members of the Star Promenaders, a square dancing club. When his boys were younger, he began drag racing. The boys started drag racing with him as soon as they became old enough. He loved to fish and hunt and took his boys camping and taught them when they were young. He also loved to fly remote control airplanes. He bought a Cessna 140 airplane, taught himself how to fly and then got his pilot’s license. He flew around the state of Oklahoma. Jimmy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Jean of Lawton, Okla.; sons: Jimmy Darrel Setzer and wife of Walters, Okla., and Donald Wayne Setzer of Geronimo, Okla.; eight grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren; brother, William “Bill” Lee Setzer and wife of Hugo; sister, Sandy Jean Stuart and husband of Valliant; a sister-in-law; along with a host of other friends, family and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Valliant Cemetery with Bro. Ronnie Miller and Stephen Wiese officiating, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
