Jo Nell Dickson Beard

Jo Nell Dickson Beard, of Hugo, Okla., was born on March 21, 1941 in Grant, Okla., to Gilmer Joe and Ruth (Cole) Dickson. She passed from this life on her 80th birthday, on March 21, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jo Nell grew up in Hugo and graduated from Hugo High School in 1959. After graduation she moved to California with relatives and attended college for a year. Jo Nell returned to Hugo where she married and raised her three children. She was employed by Baptist Village Retirement Center in Hugo, where she enjoyed caring for and visiting with the residents. Jo Nell was a kind and caring person who always saw the good in people. She had many virtues but two of her greatest were her patience and the ability to be a good listener. Jo Nell was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Hugo.

Jo Nell is survived by her daughter, Shelly Wheeler and husband, Randall of Hugo; sons: Mark Beard of Fort Towson, Okla., and Kenny Beard of Hugo; grandchildren: Justin Wheeler, Ethan Wheeler and wife, Autumn; great-grandchildren: Paris Wheeler, Ryker Wheeler and Kacy Wheeler; brother, Chris Dickson and wife, Susan of Hugo; sister, Gwen Cayton and husband, Charles of Norman, Okla., along with a host of other relatives, friends and loved ones.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
