Funeral services for Loyd Deaton will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Hugo, Okla., with Bro. Doug Mc-Clure, Bro. Danny Mills and Dr. Steve Deaton officiating. Burial will follow at the Rattan Cemetery in Rattan, Okla. Loyd went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, in Paris, Texas, at the age of 86.

Loyd Deaton was born Aug. 13, 1936 in Spencerville, Okla., to Rufus and Emma (Wright) Deaton. He passed away on Sept. 17, 2022 in Paris Texas, surrounded by his family who absolutely adored him. He attended Spencerville School through the eighth grade and then transferred to Rattan High School. During his sophomore and junior years, he attended Prosser, Wash., High School. Loyd returned his senior year to graduate with his 1954 Rattan High School Class. Upon graduating Rattan High School, Loyd attended Murray State College in the fall of 1954 where he graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Vocational Agriculture Education. In 1958, he completed his Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University in Vocational Agriculture Education. He served seven years in the Army Reserves. After one year of basic training, he was hired as the Rattan Vocational Agriculture Teacher. He remained in this position for 19 years. During his 19 years as Rattan Vocational Agriculture Teacher, he played an active role in many different leadership positions and boards. Loyd was Vice-President of the Southeast District Vocational Teachers Association. Upon fulfilling the office of President of the Southeast District Vocational Teachers Association, he was named Rattan Schools Superintendent. Loyd completed his Masters of Education Degree from the University of Oklahoma with a Superintendent’s endorsement. He is currently the longest serving Agricultural Teacher and Superintendent in Rattan’s School History. He was Rattan Superintendent for 25 years. He was an instrumental part of the Rattan Rams’ winning tradition. He was the first Agriculture Teacher to start the Rattan Rodeo 59 years ago. He had never missed a rodeo or a performance in 58 years. Besides being a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Loyd Deaton’s greatest accomplishment is that he has dedicated more than 40 years of life in Rattan, to educating a countless number of students, who have benefited from his guidance and experience, while at the same time enriching the entire community through his many endeavors related to his love of education and his students. Loyd is survived by his wife, Kay Ann (Hulse) Deaton. He married the love of his life of 61 years on June 9, 1961 in Rattan, Okla. Loyd was the best girl daddy to his two beloved daughters. He thought the world of them. His grandkids were also the apple of his eye and loved them dearly. He is survived by Julie Ann Hallows and husband, Tony of Rattan; Linda Kay Green and husband, Paul of Boswell, Okla.; grandson, Brady Loyd Palmer and wife, Michelle of Rattan; granddaughter, Bree’Andra Putman and husband, Britton of Wetumka, Okla.; grandsons: Sloan Green of Boswell, Shane Green of Boswell; great-grandchildren: Bella, Swayzee and Brittlee; one brother, Wilbur Deaton of Rattan and one sister, Lavern Lindly of Rattan; and numerous nieces and nephews Loyd was preceeded in death by his parents: Rufus and Emma (Wright) Deaton; one brother, Melvin Deaton and one sister, Irma Sue Burkham; in-laws: Finis and Mae Belle Hulse.

Pallbearers will be Brady Loyd Palmer, Britton Putman, Sloan Green, Shane Green, Dakota Ragsdill and Trey Woods.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Howard Boyett, Larry Boyett, Shane Nelson, Pete Smith, Larry Morgan, Dillon Bodine, Rick Buchanan, Vic Buchanan, Shawn Pinkston, Charley Cooper, Terry Cooper, Dusty Smallwood, Harold Greer, JD Mickel, Dewayne Henslee, Alan Henslee, Ricky Henslee, Ross King, Terry Noel, Lanny Noel, Sam Davis, Donald Wall, Bo Erwin and Mike Green The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022 at Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral home in Hugo.
