Richard Earl Sutherland was born on Oct. 27, 1944 in Vardaman, Miss., to Charles and Ruth (Criddle) Sutherland. Richard passed from this life on Jan. 2, 2021 in Durant, Okla., at the age of 76. Richard attended Pine Tree Schools in Longview, Texas, and worked as Operations Superintendent for WFEC until his retirement. He received a Patton for WFEC and Service Awards with SWEDCO. Drinkard accepts HHS principal position

Hugo School board of education has begun the search for a new superintendent. After adjourning into executive session during Monday’s meeting, the board discussed the superintendent search and the interview process, which will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 11 with approximately 12 applicants. The board announced after the meeting closed Monday that Sammy Drinkard, who was currently the dean of students at the high school, was asked to transfer positions and has accepted to role of high school principal.

Kiamichi Tech recognizes Practical Nursing graduates

HUGO –– Twelve Practical Nursing students graduated from Kiamichi Tech Hugo on Thursday, June 27. According to the program director, Shelly Swalley, Practical Nursing graduates complete 1,508 hours of class time and clinical hours.
