Funeral services for Tracy Van Herman, of Soper, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. May 3, 2021 at Todd Whatley / Lige Hammock Memorial Arena in Hugo. Tracy passed away April 24, 2021 in Chocowinity, N.C., at the age of 51.

Tracy Van Herman was born on Aug. 19, 1969 in Hugo, Okla., to Floyd Van “Kitten” and Barbara Jo (Tate) Herman. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tracy enjoyed working on the family ranch and hauling cattle with his dad. When his parents decided to open the Nelson Country Store, he was instrumental in establishing a roping pen. Tracy spent many hours participating in the sport he loved the most, team roping. In 1993, along with his family, they took over ownership of Hugo Livestock. In 1995 they opened the Antlers Stockyard and operated as a family business for six years. After the sale of the stockyards in 2001, Tracy and his family joined forces as Herman and Herman Cattle Company and worked side-by-side until Kitten’s death. Tracy decided to carry on the family tradition and began hauling cattle. He worked on the Choctaw Nation Ranch before he ventured out on his own and started running his own livestock on his ranch. On Oct. 12, 2018 he married the love of his life, Sheila Burris in Hot Springs, Ark. The most important thing in Tracy’s life was family and he loved spending time with them. He also enjoyed sharing stories around the campfire with friends. Tracy was the guy who would step up and help out in any situation, regardless of the cost. He was selfless, hard working and loved fiercely. Tracy will truly be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Tracy is survived by his wife, Sheila; sons: Brandon Cloud of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Kyle Cloud of Lovington, N.M.; daughter, Shania Cloud of Soper; brother, Trey Herman of Soper; sister, Vanessa Schuessler and husband, Karl of Soper; nephews: Pacen Herman and Koopur Schuessler; eight grandchildren; honorary parents, Larry and Arlene Minchey of Soper; honorary brother, Shamron Trent of Soper, along with a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Sugar Creek Cemetery in Soper with Chad Moffatt and Bro. Bruce Roebuck officiating, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
