Joyce Fluellen

Joyce Ann Fluellen went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2022. She was 76 years old. Joyce was born on Aug. 10, 1945 in Whittier, Calif., to Vernon and Margaret Alexander. She moved to Hugo, Okla., as a young child and lived here her entire life. She attended Hugo Schools and graduated from Hugo High School in 1963, which she would say was the best class to ever graduate from Hugo High School. She married the love of her life, Ralph Fluellen on June 22, 1963. They were married for 54 years and made their home in Hugo. Joyce was an enthusiastic community leader. She was involved in civic clubs, the Chamber of Commerce and most importantly the annual Hugo Homecoming where she volunteered for many years. Joyce worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and then moved on to Public Service Company for many years until her retirement. Joyce was an active member of Clayton Avenue Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was there to serve anytime the doors were open. She loved her church family.

Becky Sue Green

A celebration of life for Becky Sue Green will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Hugo, Okla., with Pastor Doug McClure and Pastor Danny Mills presiding. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo. Becky Sue Green, 64, left her earthly dwelling to be with her Heavenly Lord on April 2, 2022, in her home after a lengthy illness in Hugo, surrounded by her husband and children by her side.

Massey Family Foundation establishes John Massey Leaders Program

DURANT –– The Massey Family has long been synonymous with giving back to the community, with higher education being just one of the many beneficiaries of such generosity. John Massey, a 1960 graduate and Distinguished Alumnus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, served as a regent of the Oklahoma State System for Higher Education for a record 27 years.
