Their Food Bank, as well as those helping in Pushmataha and McCurtain Counties, will be recipients of $2,500 gifted from our Rotary District 5830. Iris Garden Club opens new year with fall-themed meeting

The Iris Garden Club of Hugo met on Sept. 28 to open their new year, after being adjourned for the summer. The group convened in the “Party Barn” at the home of Jerry and Harolynn Wofford. The tables were decorated with fall tablecloths, pumpkins and fall colors for the dinner. President Harolynn Wofford welcomed everyone back and Marvin Keele led in prayer. The group formed a line for the buffet of hot dogs, chips, relishes and red velvet delight for dessert, with tea and apple juice. Marcia Keele was co-hostess.

Officials warn of false polling place claims

• Election officials alert voters about false polling place text message Oklahoma State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax issued a voter alert, warning voters about a text message that was received by a voter last Friday, that falsely claimed the voter’s polling place had changed. The complaint has been referred by election officials to law enforcement.

FOR THE FIRST TIME in Hugo News Football Contest history, there is a tie! With the OU Sooners, OSU Cowboys and Hugo Buffaloes’ games being cancelled due to COVID-19 issues, there was no way to judge the yardage for a tie breaker. Choosing 12 out of 15 games correctly were Seaerra Jordan and Eddie Ball. Jordan is pictured collecting the $50 weekly prize from Claudia Vertiz of First United Bank, where she obtained her winning entry blank. Ball is pictured collecting the $50 weekly prize from Zack Savage of First Bank, where he obtained his winning entry blank. Game selections can be found in each Wednesday edition of the Hugo News.
