Hugo city-wide fall cleanup will be held Oct. 22-23. All items must be taken to the landfill on S. Eighth St., across from the bypass from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Curbside pickup is available to the very elderly and handicapped only, by calling 580.326.2344 before noon on Thursday, Oct. 21. No hazardous waste allowed, such as paint, batteries, tires, etc. Must have a copy of current city of Hugo water bill.

An active week of weather across southeast Oklahoma with off and on showers and thunderstorms through Thursday, but then much cooler air will move in and bring drier air just in time to give us a sunny weekend.

Tom and Katie were in love. After two years of courting, Tom finally worked up his courage to pop the question. No, not the “Will you marry me?” to Katie. The real question back in those years was the one asked of the bride’s father, “Do I have your permission to ask your daughter to marry me?”

Football Contest winner

SHEILAH GIBBS (left), of Hugo, was this week’s winner of the Hugo News Football Contest after choosing 16 out of 19 games correctly. Gibbs guessed closest (421) to the OU Sooners’ total offense figure (662) to edge out Eddie Ball and Turk Robinson. Above, Gibbs collects the $50 weekly prize from Ernest McCarty from Security First National Bank, where she obtained her winning entry blank.
