Health officials caution of Salmonella risk from baby poultry

Cases of Salmonella infection increase each year around Easter time when stores begin putting baby poultry (chicks and ducklings) on display, or when they’re given as gifts. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates Salmonella bacteria cause about 1.35 million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations, and 420 deaths in the United States every year.

Chief Gary Batton said he was recently on a phone call with Harvard University Alumni Associations and people from 20 other nations when the story came up about how the Choctaw Nation came to the aid of Ireland during its famine in the 1800s.
