The Choctaw Nation held the plasma drive in Durant, hosting Choctaw citizens and members of the community.

The week ahead will feature a nice warming trend for Choctaw County with high temperatures climbing from the upper-40s on Wednesday to 60 to 65 degrees Friday and Saturday. The mild weather will stick around through early next week and the next chance of rainfall looks to be Friday night and Saturday with scattered showers possible.

Candidates for the Special Election set to fill the vacancy for Choctaw County Commissioner in District No. 2 due the recent death of incumbent County Commissioner Randy Robertson as well as candidates vying for municipal office in five Choctaw County municipalities may file declarations of candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1 and ending at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3.

THE HUGO NEWS ANNOUNCES its First Baby of the New Year! Miss Marabelle Morgan was born at 1:25 p.m. Jan. 4, 2021 at Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris, Texas, to Tesslyn and Cody Morgan of Hugo. She weighed six pounds, seven ounces and was 21 inches long. She is the granddaughter of Felicia Cofer of Hugo, Jeremy Davidson of Hugo, Bobbie Morgan of Hugo and Troy Morgan of Sawyer. Her great-grandparents include the late Lenette Cofer of Idabel, James Cofer of Hugo, Nora Weddle of Messer and the late Alton Morgan of Clovis, N.M. She is the little sister to proud big brother, 4-year-old Alton Morgan.
