Choctaw Nation bridging unity with $1M check

The Choctaw Nation is building upon the foundation of its partnership with county government and the local community by helping fund the ongoing Muddy Boggy Creek Bridge Project north of Boswell.

A new bridge is being built to bypass the old one, which has been deemed “one of the poorest (rated) bridges in Oklahoma,” District 1 County Commissioner Ronnie Thompson said. The project is about 75% complete, according to Jimmy Watson, program director and civil engineer for Circuit Engineering District 3. The project was estimated to cost the county nearly $5.8 million.

Community to hold annual Juneteenth celebration Saturday

The 14th annual Juneteenth Celebration, “Free Your Mind and the Rest Will Follow,” will begin at noon on Saturday, June 19. The parade line up will start at noon Saturday at Save-A-Lot parking lot, with the parade beginning at 1 p.m. It will end at Booker T. Black named new manager at Choctaw County Public Library

HUGO –– The Southeast Oklahoma Library System (SEOLS) recently announced the naming of Bessi Black as the new Library Manager of the Choctaw County Public Library in Hugo. Black was previously employed with Texas Health and Human Services and brings 17 years of community involvement and customer service experience to her new position.
