TVSHKA HOMMA –– Members of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) remembered the journey of their ancestors at the 2021 Trail of Tears Memorial Walk. The COVID pandemic prevented a live walk in 2020. Held on the Historic Capitol Grounds of Tvshka Homma, the event returned Saturday, May 15. An estimated 700 tribal members and friends participated in the symbolic walk of twoand-a-half miles, with at least that many in attendance to show support.
Right: FORMER HUGOAN and HHS grad, Mike (Mushulatubbe) Simpson has been busy for several weeks participating as an extra in the upcoming blockbuster movie, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” under the direction of legendary movie producer Martin Scorsese. The movie features leading actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro and is currently being filmed in Pawhuska. The Hugo board of education met in special session on June 1. The Board approved the employment of Cheyenne Carlile for the position of pre-kindergarten teacher, Carla Knowles for the position of third grade teacher, Benita Gilmore for the position of computer teacher and head varsity softball coach, and Cody Gilmore for the position of physical education teacher and assistant football coach.

PUSHMATAHA COUNTY –– The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Pushmataha County, Okla., early Sunday morning. Based on the OSBI’s initial investigation, this is what is known at this time: • At 2:44 a.m., Pushmataha County Deputies initiated a traffic stop west of Antlers.
