Reservations now available for Doaksville Historic Candlelight tours

FORT TOWSON –– Experience the history of southeastern Oklahoma at the annual Doaksville Historic Candlelight Tours. Tours will be held Friday, Oct. 7, and Saturday, Oct. 8, beginning at 6:30 p.m., with the last tour departing at 9:30 p.m. A guide will take visitors on a 45-minute walking tour through the streets of this once prominent town. The venues on the tour will cover specific historic events in Doaksville’s history. Doaksville served as the capital of the Choctaw Nation intermittently after 1850 and regularly from 1858 to 1863. Guests will learn about the history of the area from the perspective of Fort Towson Commander Josiah H. Vose. Center applauds steps to make crop insurance more accessible

In a win for producers across the country, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency recently announced changes to two crop insurance programs –– Whole Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP) and Micro Farm. The improvements will expand access to risk management options for thousands of producers, particularly those with small or diversified operations.

October is Residents’ Rights Month, an annual event designated by Consumer Voice to honor residents living in all long-term care facilities and those receiving care in their home or community. It is an opportunity to focus on and celebrate the dignity and rights of every individual receiving long-term services and supports, and to support long-term care ombudsmen, citizen advocates, facility staff and family members who work to promote and support residents’ rights.
